Then they turned it into a wide-spread close range weapon, effectively making is less than usable. If you didn't get them in the first hit, you were pretty much dead. It behaved like a shotgun should, and was balanced by the fact that it was a pump. Keep in mind, medium range in this game is a little greater than in others. It was by no means long range on its own, but at medium distance, it was able to take down a motherfucker with one solid body shot. It had fantastic range, which is important in a game about large-scale battles over large, large arenas.

MAG also had a great shotgun (before the patch fucked it over). The added benefit of being able to change to a slug round is what made that shotgun all the more glorious. Running up on dudes and taking them down, and then finishing them off with one more shot was beautiful.

In Metal Gear Solid 4 Online I would rule with the shotgun before it became slightly more common. I especially love them when they are designed more true-to-life.

Shotguns in video games are always my favorite. goddayum), but of all games to really show off the potential and raw, burning power that a shotgun can dish out, ME3 I think is one of them. well I guess it's because he's never liked shotguns (also hearing Patrick say that you're not 'meant' to biotic-charge into a group. I never used it much in ME2 because it was far too slow and I relied on the Eviscerator, but it matches its legacy as being a Krogan's favourite in ME3. And that Claymore shotgun is like if a Reaper decided to harvest shotgun parts. It doesn't work all the time and I don't just Rambo everything, but when it works it's so satisfying - even more so than during ME2. Playing on Insanity now, and while it's predictably tough as a Vanguard, my tactic of charging in (now with it levelled so I receive my barrier back when it hits), pausing, using my team members abilities to fry/burn/warp anyone that may cause a threat and then I finish over with a Nova. but I prefer Jennifer Hale's performance). Oh and man, Vanguards are still super sexy time fun! I went with my Infiltrator chick first during the campaign, but as per usual went with Vanguard for my secondary (which was originally my main during ME1. Shotguns still work effective against mid-range I've noticed too especially the Disciple and the Claymore, and especially when they're paired with some incendiary ammo. only one shot, but it can practically kill any regular guy with that single shot from a surprising range. But then there's that beast of a beast, the Claymore (it's what I want all Jakobs shotguns to feel like in Borderlands 2). It looks snazzy and like a true & told sci-fi gun, with an awesome kickback against just about everything. For my brief time in MP (playing non-stop after redeeming a 2 day GOLD membership), my favourite way to play was a Salarian Engineer rolling with the Disciple, a relatively light but powerful Asari shotgun. What is it with Jeff and fun? Seriously, the shotguns are by far the most satisfying weapons to use in the game - especially the later ones.
